Singapore (June 9): Helping the game’s development in Vietnam by introducing as many new players to the game as possible is the aim of a US$10,000 cash grant from the Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF).
The AGIF has approved the funding for the new programme that is being officially endorsed and supported by the Vietnam Golf Association, the country’s ruling golfing organisation.
A Request for Proposal document was sent out to more than 30 clubs and driving ranges in the country and three have now been short-listed for the grant – The Montgomerie Links in Danang; Ocean Dunes Golf Club in Phan Thiet and Dao Sen Driving Range in Hanoi.
Mark Adams, chairman of the AGIF sub-committee responsible for Liaison with National and Regional Golfing Bodies, said the proposals of the shortlisted trio were under final consideration. Specifically, clarification is being sought on how the programme to introduce new golfers to the game in Vietnam will be implemented and what strategies are planned to ensure the interest in the game of these players continues once the programme period expires.
“It is the intention to have a final verdict on who will be receiving the grant by the end of June,” said Adams.
