TWO AGIF CHARTER MEMBERS JOIN ASGCA BOARD By Asian Golf Business Tuesday, February 02 2010

Jason StrakaJason Straka, a Senior Design Associate at Columbus, Ohio based Hurdzan/Fry Environmental Golf Design has been nominated to join the American Society of Golf Course Architects Board of Governors.  Straka along with Brian Curley and John Harvey will begin three year terms at the Board meeting following the 2010 ASGCA Annual Meeting on March 9th in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

Straka holds a B.S. in Landscape Architecture and an M.P.S. in Turfgrass Management and Environmental Golf Course Design from Cornell University.  His graduate work focused on the development of Widow's Walk Golf Course in Scituate, Massachusetts, which is widely recognized as the United State's first environmental demonstration and research golf course.

Professionally, Straka’s specialized training has enabled him to excel within a wide range of projects in North America, Asia, and Europe.  He has served as an associate in a registered golf course builder's firm, as a golf course Greenskeeper, and as a research technician in the design and construction of golf greens.  These positions have provided him with a wealth of insight into the many facets of the golf course industry and how they integrate with the design of golf courses.  He also frequently speaks and teaches to various golf and professional organizations and Universities. He has been an ASGCA “regular” member since 2008 and recently served as chairman of the Tartan Ribbon Panel, which composed a document describing a common skill set for golf course architects.  He is a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, and is an Ad Junct Professor at The Ohio State University.

Brian Curley“Jason is an incredibly gifted designer with impeccable credentials especially in the area of environmental issues and concerns,” says Dr. Michael Hurdzan. “I hope every employer feels as proud and confident about his or her employees as I do about Jason. This is particularly true when one recognizes that the future success of our business rests with the abilities and skills of people like Jason.  He set his goal to become a golf course architect when he was barely a teenager, and has shaped his life, education and community involvement to support that goal. All of us at Hurdzan/Fry are proud of his selection to the ASGCA Board of Governors.”
